Ocean Harvesting presenterar samarbete med norska Fred Olsen AS

Pressmeddelande från Ocean Harvesting:

Swedish – Norwegian collaboration on wave power

First sea trials for Swedish wave power plant Ocean Harvester made in collaboration with Fred Olsen company, Norway.

The Swedish wave power company Ocean Harvesting Technologies AB (OHT) will test its prototype in collaboration with Fobox AS, a company in the Fred Olsen group. It will be the first sea trial of the wave energy converter named Ocean Harvester. The collaboration means that Fred Olsen will provide space at its wave power test facilities in Risör at the southeast coast of Norway. Equipment, infrastructure, industrial partners and personnel are included in the collaboration in order to support the sea trials of the prototype.

”The collaboration brings several advantages for us”, says Mikael Sidenmark, CEO of Ocean Harvesting Technologies AB. “A wave energy converter consists of several subsystems that must function well together for the whole system to work properly. Fred Olsen has substantial knowledge in marine technology in general and 10 years of experience in the wave power filed in particular. This gives valuable input for our first sea trials and for the continuous development of our technology. Furthermore, the test facilities, location of the test site and wave climate are perfect for us. Our objective is to test and confirm that our novel and patented power take‐off solution – with mechanical power smoothing – is working in the ocean under real conditions. We hope this is the beginning of a collaboration that will be valuable for both parties.”

Tore Gulli, project director at Fobox AS: "Wave power will be an important source of energy in the future. It is demanding to develop proper and cost‐efficient solutions and therefore essential for developers in the wave power industry to collaborate as much as possible, in order to make this potential energy source available to the market.”

The sea trials of the Ocean Harvesting Technologies prototype are planned for deployment in august 2012.
